GO CAPS Monett (Greater Ozarks Centers for Advanced Professional Studies) is an innovative, unique program that is designed to provide junior and senior students hands-on, real world experience in the field of agriculture, agri-business and food systems. The instructor will lead the strand exploring this vast industry within a geographical area of Southwest Missouri that is home to many of the top agricultural-rich counties in the state, as well as companies and manufacturers within food systems and production.

Students engage in rigorous professional development with an emphasis on career exploration in the agri-business and food systems field. They are provided the opportunity to explore their interests through a profession and project-based learning approach. Areas explored include but are not limited to horticulture, the beef industry, research, niche markets, conservation, agriculture finance/lending, food insecurity/sustainability, and innovations in agriculture.

GO CAPS students fast forward into their future and are fully immersed in a professional culture, solving real world problems, using industry standard tools and are mentored by real employers, which lead to substantial advanced contribution during the formative high school years. The GO CAPS program is managed through the Monett R-1 School District, but this class will be held daily on-site at the Southwest Research, Extension, and Education Center (SW-REEC) (14548 Highway H, Mt. Vernon), part of the University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources. The instructor works closely with our partners and staff at the SW-REEC for daily planning and experiences.
